"Celebrating Calvary"

This is the watch of holy victory. As the sun begins to descend, we pause in sacred awe to remember the greatest exchange in history—Jesus, lifted high on the Cross, declaring once and for all: It is finished. This moment seals the eternal plan of redemption. Sin defeated. Death disarmed. Hell overruled.

We don’t approach this hour with sorrow—we enter it with celebration. Jesus didn’t die a victim; He triumphed as a Victor. His blood didn’t stain the earth—it cleansed us for eternity. The Cross isn’t just where it ended; it’s where everything began for us. Freedom, wholeness, restoration, and authority were transferred to us at Calvary. This is the hour to let that truth settle deep.

His finished work is your starting point. You’re not trying to win—you’re standing in a victory already secured. You’re not striving for acceptance—you’re reconciled by blood. You’re not wondering if you’re enough—Jesus was more than enough. Let your prayers rise in thanksgiving and let your life speak of His power. A permanent change has come!

Know God: He Hears, Sees, Cares, and Acts

John 19:30, Romans 8:37, Colossians 2:15, Hebrews 10:12-14

Encounters with God and Others:

When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And He bowed His head and [voluntarily] gave up His spirit. Care of the Body of Jesus  Since it was the day of Preparation [for the Sabbath], in order to prevent the bodies from hanging on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high holy day) the Jews asked Pilate to have their legs broken [to hasten death] and the bodies taken away. So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man, and of the other who had been crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came [flowing] out.  And he (John, the eyewitness) who has seen it has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also [who read this] may believe.  For these things took place to fulfill the Scripture, "Not a bone of His shall be broken." And again another Scripture says, "They shall look at Him whom they have pierced."  And after this, Joseph of Arimathea—a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews—asked Pilate to let him take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away His body. Nicodemus, who had first come to Him at night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, [weighing] about a hundred [Roman] [c]pounds. So they took Jesus' body and bound it in linen wrappings with the fragrant spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.  Now there was a garden at the place where He was crucified, and in the garden a new tomb [cut out of solid rock] in which no one had yet been laid. Therefore, because of the Jewish day of Preparation, and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
John 19:30-42
 

At that moment, the Temple curtain was ripped in two, top to bottom. There was an earthquake, and rocks were split in pieces. What's more, tombs were opened up, and many bodies of believers asleep in their graves were raised. (After Jesus' resurrection, they left the tombs, entered the holy city, and appeared to many.) The captain of the guard and those with him, when they saw the earthquake and everything else that was happening, were scared to death. They said, "This has to be the Son of God!"
Matthew 27:51-54

So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn't hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn't gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God's chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ's love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture: They kill us in cold blood because they hate you. We're sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one. None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I'm absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God's love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
Romans 8:31-39

Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16

Entering into this fullness is not something you figure out or achieve. It's not a matter of being circumcised or keeping a long list of laws. No, you're already in—insiders—not through some secretive initiation rite but rather through what Christ has already gone through for you, destroying the power of sin. If it's an initiation ritual you're after, you've already been through it by submitting to baptism. Going under the water was a burial of your old life; coming up out of it was a resurrection, God raising you from the dead as he did Christ. When you were stuck in your old sin-dead life, you were incapable of responding to God. God brought you alive—right along with Christ! Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ's cross. He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets.
Colossians 2:11-15

Every priest goes to work at the altar each day, offers the same old sacrifices year in, year out, and never makes a dent in the sin problem. As a priest, Christ made a single sacrifice for sins, and that was it! Then he sat down right beside God and waited for his enemies to cave in. It was a perfect sacrifice by a perfect person to perfect some very imperfect people. By that single offering, he did everything that needed to be done for everyone who takes part in the purifying process. The Holy Spirit confirms this: This new plan I'm making with Israel isn't going to be written on paper, isn't going to be chiseled in stone;  This time "I'm writing out the plan in them, carving it on the lining of their hearts."  He concludes, I'll forever wipe the slate clean of their sins. Once sins are taken care of for good, there's no longer any need to offer sacrifices for them.
Hebrews 10:11-18

Strategic Prayer Points:
Celebrate. Declare. Walk in the Finished Work.
  • Praise Jesus for His finished work and eternal victory on the Cross.
  • Declare that every struggle, bondage, and battle was already defeated at Calvary.
  • Thank God for freedom, reconciliation, and new life in Christ.
  • Speak resurrection life over dead areas—spirit, soul, and body.
  • Cancel any lie that says you have to earn what Jesus already paid for.
  • Receive fresh boldness to live as more than a conqueror.
  • Pray that Christ’s victory is evident in your relationships, purpose, and walk.
  • Bless others with the revelation of redemption and hope in Jesus.
  • Reaffirm your trust in the sufficiency of His sacrifice.

Are you led to pray on this watch? Don't second guess it! Pay attention to the patterns of time, seasons, patterns, and your disposition throughout the night or day. Arise and partner with the Spirit of God.
