Expect Well

Hope Without the Pressure
“So shall you know skillful and godly Wisdom to be thus to your life; if you find it, then shall there be a future and a reward, and your hope and expectation shall not be cut off." Proverbs 24:14 (AMPC)
Hey Believer,
Have you ever found yourself disappointed, even when your expectations seemed reasonable? Sometimes we look for fulfillment in the right things, but we seek them from the wrong sources.
We all carry expectations. We long to be understood, to see our plans unfold as we imagined, and to have our prayers answered in the timing we desire. When these hopes are delayed or unmet, it can feel as though hope itself has been shaken.
Yet Proverbs 24:14 offers us a foundation that is stronger than our shifting circumstances. Wisdom is not simply a good idea; it is nourishment for the soul. God does not promise that we will never encounter disappointment, but He assures us that when our lives are shaped by His wisdom, our future remains secure and our hope in Him is steadfast.
Disappointment may come, but it does not have the authority to sever your hope in God.
Psalm 62:5 says, “My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him; for my hope and expectation are from Him.”
That is where our expectations are restored and made whole.
Sometimes it is the weight of our 'shoulds' that leaves us weary. They should understand. I should be further along. This should have happened by now. These burdens can become heavy to carry.
“I ask myself: Did God truly promise this, or did I create the expectation that this is the only way things should go?”
Believer, we can hold our expectations before God without clinging tightly to a specific outcome.
This week, notice the expectations that are causing you anxiety or unrest. Are they grounded in God’s Word, or are they shaped by pressure, fear, comparison, or personal preference? Bring these to the Holy Spirit. Allow God’s wisdom to steady your soul and renew your perspective.
Release the expectations that God has not established.Hold firmly to what He has truly promised.
Pray this with me: Father, thank You that my hope is secure in You. Holy Spirit, show me where disappointment or personal expectations have shaped my thinking. Help me release what You never promised and trust You with what You have. Teach me to expect well. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Disappointment may appear, but your hope in God does not have to depart.
